DIY the Cool Wooden Bottle Opener

Making your own bottle opener is a fun project, and a handmade one is sure to impress your family and friends every time. Now, let's get started:

Supplies:

- Small block of hard wood
- 3″ common-head nail
- 8mm diameter magnets
- Jigsaw (or a coping saw)
- Dremel with sanding drum (or just regular sandpaper)
- Drill/driver
- 5/16″ and 5/32″ drill bits
- Glue gun

Instructions:

1. Choose a hard wood for this project.

2. The dimensions are flexible. However, I’d suggest keeping it close to what I’ve laid out here.

3. Using a miter saw, table saw, jigsaw or just a coping saw to cut out the shape.

4. Next sand each side using a combination of a cordless grinder with sanding pad and a Dremel with a sanding drum. Also round all the edges just enough to make it more comfortable to hold.

5. Carefully drill holes on the front and back of the bottle opener. Position one magnet close to the top of the face of the bottle opener to catch the bottle cap. Place the second magnet a little lower to store the opener on the fridge.

6. Drill a hole on the top for the nail. A drill press will have been ideal for this step ( You can use a drill/driver).

7. Put a dab of hot glue behind each to secure the magnets.

8. Use a clamp and a vise to slowly bend the nail (choose the nail whose head is flat on both sides) into a right angle.

9. Just like with the magnets, add a dab of hot glue before pushing the nail in place.

That’s it! This is a great bottle opener and a fun project. If you don't want to make this handmade bottle opener, maybe you can come to snapmade.com to create your own personalized bottle opener.
