With the Valentine's Day only a month away, it’s time to start shopping for presents. Perhaps you will choose the normal gifts, such as flowers, chocolate. Or perhaps you will choose some unique custom gifts, such as custom jewelry, custom ties, etc. However, not every gift is suitable for you to give your loved ones. In the spirit of all this gift giving, there are some superstitions about gift giving.
1. You should not give your lover a pair of shoes as a gift as this based on an old superstition that you’re basically giving someone the tools to “walk away forever from you.”
2. When giving a gift of a wallet, purse, piggy bank or anything that is meant to hold money, you should put money in it so the person will have good luck. If someone is given an empty wallet, it’s foreshadowing how that wallet will always be empty throughout its use.
3. Giving a perfume as a gift is considered bad luck - unless the receiver gives a small amount of money back. It can even be a penny - which would counteract the bad luck heading their way.
4. A Watch/Clock. By giving a watch, you’re putting time on a relationship - that your time spent as a couple might run out. It seems that you’re reminding the person that they have limited time to spend with you. And in Chinese culture, giving a clock as a present is taboo due to the Chinese word for 'clock' sounding like the word for 'death'.
5. Avoid giving a single rose. In Italy, giving a single rose of any color means death.
6. Avoid giving the knife to your lovers. Giving the knife means that the love will end soon.
Still, there are some other superstitions about gift giving that I can't list all the superstitions. After all, different cultures may have different superstitions.
